News 12 is breaking down a new investigation on a syndrome possibly linked to the coronavirus that is impacting kids.
The investigation looked at all the potential cases that were reported to the Health Department, and then looked to see if those reports met the definition of the multi-inflammatory syndrome in children, put out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This all stems from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
As of May 20, 158 cases of suspected MISC were reported to the Health Department. Of those cases, 26 did not meet the definition, and 43 are still under investigation.
They say they did identify 89 pediatric patients that met the definition. The health commissioner says this syndrome is alarming and that’s why they have been reaching out to physicians and parents with information.

This could also have an impact on decisions made about reopening that was discussed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday.
"So when we are talking about schools again the facts have changed from the "experts" because there are no experts on this COVID virus. I have learned that the hard way. Children aren't affected, well, now maybe children now are affected right? And when you are talking about schools and you are talking about children and you are talking about density. Exploring the situation and making sure this is not a widespread situation affecting children,” said Gov. Cuomo.
According to the CDC, with this condition, different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes or gastrointestinal organs.
