Kids ages 5-11 were able to get their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at New York City public schools Tuesday.

Pop-up locations included P.S. 67 in Fort Greene and P.S. 40 and P.S. 124 in Manhattan. The pop-up vaccination sites are the latest effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 and get more children fully vaccinated as omicron variant concerns rise.

Jordana Yellen was among the dozens of parents waiting with her child to get the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"The fact that it's right here on site makes it so much easier to coordinate and get her to school on time," said Yellen.

The city wrapped up a campaign that brought the first dose of the vaccine to every public school with students between the ages of 5-11, and Mayor Bill de Blasio promised to have more school-related events in the future.

"I feel relieved. I'm grateful that they're now in the process of getting their second vaccine and that they'll be fully vaccinated and there's going to be some sense of normal life," said parent Erick Basilio.

Officials are urging children to get their second doses and hope efforts like this will help raise the vaccination numbers.

According to the city's latest numbers, only about 45% of kids ages 5-17 have gotten the first shot.
