A group of NYCHA residents says they have discovered dozens of maggots throughout their building.
A video shot by Sotomayor Houses resident Marisa Green shows what she says is the latest plague in the building she has lived in for more than three decades.
“I’ve never seen maggots but on TV, and to see them in front of my door and my neighbor’s door and down the hallway, it’s atrocious,” said Green.
The mother of Green’s granddaughter says she worries for her 8-month-old who also lives there.
Green says she’s gone to building management and made 311 complaints since the issue started more than a week ago but that she hasn’t heard back.
“It’s very painful, disrespectful because they didn’t send anybody here that I saw, nobody came to my door,” said Green.
Residents tell News 12 the building’s garbage incinerators have also been off for more than a month. They say the garbage bags have been lining the walkway to their building the whole time.
Green also complained of rats.
They say that one NYCHA maintenance worker who works around the grounds is not enough to pick up all the trash.
“It makes me feel sad because we’re hardworking people and we pay rent over here, and we need something done about this,” said Green.
Green says she’s already put in an emergency transfer request.
News 12 reached out to NYCHA and has not heard back yet.
