Police are investigating a shooting that took place in University Heights.

According to the NYPD, the 911 call for the shooting came in just before 2:30 p.m. from 5 W. Burnside Ave., between Jerome and Davidson avenues.

A 21-year-old male was shot in the stomach and a 22-year-old male was shot in the leg during the incident, according to law enforcement. They are both employees of Burnside Exotic Smoke Shop, where the incident took place.

Bullet casings and shattered glass could be seen across the floor of the smoke shop as police were investigating the scene. Officers say that the suspect in question fled the scene on a scooter on W. Burnside Ave.

Witnesses say they heard three gun shots in the incident and that shootings have become a constant worry in the area.

"This is a busy area... you do have a lot of kids coming home from school," said Bronx resident Peter Sacaza. "That's the worrisome part for me, the kids the babies, just anybody in general."

Both victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and are now in stable condition.

No arrests have been made at this time.

This is a developing story.
