Nearly seven months after the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy in the Bronx, police say that they have the man who they believe pulled the trigger in custody.
Jamir Scarboro, 20, was found in North Carolina and extradited back to New York, where he faces charges including murder.
Josue Lopez-Ortega, 15, was shot and killed as he was leaving a basketball game at the Police Athletic League on Longwood Avenue, along with one of his friends. Lopez-Ortega was shot in the head and died from his injuries in the hospital.   Parents who live in the area say that today’s arrest brought justice for Lopez-Ortega, but that they still fear for their children’s lives.
“I'm heartbroken because we must do better as parents,” said parent Diane Torres. “As I saw he is a young kid and I don't know what his circumstances are, I am not saying I forgive him because he took a life, but as parents we must do better to keep track of our children.”
Torres and other parents say they are thankful to the detectives that stayed on this case for several months.
