NYPD: 77-year-old woman found dead with head trauma in Pelham Parkway

People who lived in the area said they saw a large police presence Monday morning and had no idea what happened, but they called the incident scary.

A 77-year-old woman is dead after police said she was found “unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to her head” on Monday in Pelham Parkway.  
Police said officers responded to a 911 call for an assault around 7:30 a.m. in the area of Barnes and Brady avenues. 
The NYPD Crime Scene Unit was parked outside of the apartment building at 2064 Barnes Ave. 
Neighbors told News 12 the victim was found inside of her seventh-floor apartment, where she lived with her husband. Neighbors described the couple as “good people.” 
Police said the victim was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

“There have been some interesting characters around here, and I personally don’t feel very safe,” said one woman who asked not to be identified. 
“It used to be super quiet [in this area], and now there’s been so much activity,” said Lisandra Vazquez, of Pelham Parkway. 
As of Monday evening, police have not released the victim’s name until the family is notified.
