While many areas of New York City have seen a decrease in crime during the pandemic, the NYPD says Brooklyn has seen an uptick in deadly shootings from this time last year. 
At least four shooting-related deaths took place over the last five days in Brooklyn, two occurring on Mother’s Day. 
The borough has also seen some of the highest COVID-19 deaths in the country. 
News 12’s Marissa Marcellino spoke to an advocate from New Yorkers Against Gun Violence about how the coronavirus pandemic is playing a role in this recent increase.
