The NYPD held its third annual 'Female Officers and Bronx Girls Empowerment Day' at the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx Monday.
Female officers were paired with a team of girls to teach them about self-worth and positive reinforcement through sports like Zumba, volleyball and football. Females ranging from ages 12 to 17 participated in the event.
Organizers say the goal is to give the girls a role model outside of the celebrities they see on television by trying things they might not have done before.
The women and girls also wore pink ribbons for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and purple ribbons for domestic violence awareness.
