"It's The Bronx, what do you expect," scoffed Terrence Graham, a Parks worker.
According to police, a 21-year-old man is still in critical condition after he was shot in the head Sunday around 3:30 p.m., just feet away from the Crotona pool and park. No arrests have been made.
Still, the playground wasn’t completely empty. A few kids from local a day care climbed jungle gyms, were on the swings and ran through sprinklers—under the watchful eye of their counselors.
“We don’t have our own park,” said Yamilee Norales, who works at Bright Future Kiddie Care. “So we have to bring these kids to a public park.”
Norales says they’re doing their best to keep things normal, but the shooting has shaken her.
“The kids come here to play… it’s not supposed to be a crime scene,” she said. “This was made for families—for children—to explore.”
A single NYPD cruiser remained posted outside the park Monday as police continue their investigation.
