The NYPD has released tips on how New Yorkers can avoid being the target of thieves this holiday season.
Police say it is important to always lock your car before walking away and to never leave a wallet or purse inside, even when the car is locked.
They say to keep a tight grip on bags, keys and wallets because loose-hanging belongings are easy for thieves to grab. They say pick-pocketing is very common this time of year.
Finally, when getting cash from an ATM, be sure you're in a well-lit and secure space.
