What started off as a missing person case is now being investigated by the NYPD as a homicide after a Brooklyn man disappeared back in January.
Martin Wright left his home on Monroe Street on Jan. 27, and hasn't been seen since. The 44-year-old was a boxing champion who was active in the community, teaching at local boxing gyms and mentoring neighborhood kids.
"It was a lot to take in, almost unbelievable, just for someone to be here and constantly be an impact on everyone and then poof, they're gone,” said Martin Perez, Martin Wright's son.
His disappearance took a turn when police informed Wright’s children that the case was now being investigated as a homicide.
Wright’s older brother, McMillian Wright, was arrested by police last week in connection to the homicide, according to the Binghamton Police Department.
He was found with a loaded 9mm handgun and 3.4 grams of crack-cocaine, and faced multiple charges, including criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police have still yet to locate Martin Wright’s body.
Despite not knowing the whereabouts of their father’s body, Martin Wright’s children say they’re planning to celebrate his life on April 22.
