A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit-and-run in Parkchester on Monday.
Law enforcement officials say a motorcyclist was killed after being struck by the car. Police say 22-year-old Yonkers native Brehisly Jimenez Gonzalez was arrested in connection to the accident.
He faces leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and unregistered vehicle charges.
News 12's Brittany Cadet was live at the scene on Monday:
Officers say that Jimenez Gonzalez was driving his car and hit the 32-year-old male motorcyclist before fleeing the scene.
According to police, the driver of the motorcycle was traveling westbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway northbound service road, being trailed by a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV, operated by Jimenez Gonzalez. The motorcyclist was approached by the Honda before veering to the right and striking a curb, causing him to hit a light pole.
Bronx residents who spoke with News 12 say that this is a very dangerous intersection that cars and motorcycles alike pass through at high speeds, even through the nearby stop sign.
"It was really scary, I was so scared 'cause I had my son with me," said resident Diamond Ramos, who says she was on her way home moments after the collision took place right before her. "I hoped that they could save him but he didn't look responsive."
