Police say officers shot a man with a knife on Grand Concourse Sunday morning.
NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell says officers responded to a 911 call of an emotionally disturbed person with a knife around 10 a.m. at 2685 Grand Concourse.
The caller was the father of the man, who he said was having a medical episode. The father said his son threatened to kill officers.
When police arrived at the scene, they were met by the father. Then his son approached them with a knife.
The NYPD says the officers told the man to drop the knife, but he did not comply. This was when the officers shot the suspect.
The officers then called for an ambulance and the son was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Chell said at a news conference that the incident was captured on the officers’ body cameras and the video will be reviewed.
