The NYPD Thursday released the body camera footage from a shooting at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital earlier this month that left former firefighter and police officer Michael Lynch dead.

Investigators say the incident began just before 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 8, when multiple 911 calls came in reporting Lynch, 62, was violent and armed with a blade inside the hospital.

The video shows officers responding to a bathroom on the eighth floor, where investigators said Lynch barricaded himself inside the room with an older patient and a security guard with a makeshift weapon. Lynch was fatally shot by police.

Kenneth Montgomery, the family's attorney, previously told News 12 that Lynch was not a violent man and had no history of mental health issues.

"There's nothing to suggest that this wasn't a loving father and husband who had dedicated his entire life to service," Montgomery said.

Police say that he was already an admitted patient. It's unclear why he was admitted.

The state attorney general previously announced they launched an investigation into the incident.
