Police say a 99-year-old man was fatally struck by an SUV in Manhattan Beach on Saturday
The NYPD says Jack Mikulincer was crossing the street in his electric wheelchair near his home around 5 p.m. when he was struck by an SUV at the intersection of Coleridge Street and Oriental Boulevard.
When officers got to the scene, they say the 99-year-old man was lying in the intersection. He was taken to the hospital where he died.
Neighbors who knew Mikulincer say they are saddened of his death, but they are not surprised because there is major problem with speeding in the area.
“This avenue has got the worst speeding problem anywhere in New York,” says Alex Anastasia. “We complained many times, they were talking about putting in speed bumps, but they can't do that because it's a main bus route."
Police say the 52-year-old driver stayed on the scene after the crash. No charges have been filed.
