A decision on any downstate casino licenses will likely not be made until late 2025, according to the New York State Gaming Commission.
The government department says it will take that amount of time to clear regulatory hurdles, including zoning and environmental reviews.
Nassau County has been partnering with Las Vegas Sands in hopes of building a gaming facility at the site of the Nassau Coliseum. Those plans have faced opposition from Hofstra University and other residents in the area.
There are at least 11 proposals competing for three full casino licenses.
