Friends, family and a grateful city said their final farewells to the NYPD officer who died in a crash in the Bronx.
Officer Brian Kessler, 28, was laid to rest Wednesday morning in Westchester.
Kessler died after crashing head-on into a NYC Parks Department garbage truck on Shore Road a week ago. News 12 is told he was driving home to New Rochelle after finishing an overnight shift for the NYPD in Manhattan.
Kessler graduated from the NYPD Police Academy last April, and worked for NYPD'S Housing Authority. He was assigned to Police Service Area 8 in the Bronx.
"He was humble, which you don't find much of the time with these guys, you could never get mad at him," says Amanda Szot, Kessler's sergeant at PSA 8.
Szot says Kesser brough a fun-loving energy to the force every time he walked in to work.
Kessler leaves behind his fiancée, parents, a brother and grandmother.
