An officer was shot in the Bronx early Tuesday morning.
According to the NYPD, a police officer was shot in the arm around 3 a.m. in the Prospect Avenue and East 183rd Street area.
Two officers were in an unmarked vehicle when they saw two men. Police say one of those men started shooting at the car and struck an officer in the arm.
Both officers exited the vehicle and returned fire at the suspects.
Before the incident, another gunshot was fired in the area, but police believe that gunshot was not in the direction of the officer.
"What we saw when we watched that body worn camera and videos from shops is a police officer realizing he was shot and still running towards danger," said Patrick Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association.
A 16-year-old male was taken into custody. Two additional suspects are being searched for - one who is connected to the arrested 16-year-old and the other who fired the other gunshot.
The 16-year-old in custody has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The officer was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition and has since been released in good condition.
