Assemblyman Charles Barron released a statement saying he has tested positive for COVID-19. The second legislator with the same diagnosis is Helene Weinstein.

Barron said he is in high fighting spirits and that he is confident he will beat the virus. He is 69 years old and Weinstein in 67.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a statement saying that neither Barron nor Weinstein have been in Albany since early this month, but the capital and legislative office building will be thoroughly cleaned. The capitol will be closed to visitors in the meantime.
Officials say anyone who has been in contact with the assembly members will tested.
Cuomo also signed an executive order to modify election procedures temporarily to help reduce the spread of the virus. Candidates now only need 30% of the signatures they would normally need to get on a ballot - the petition period will also be ending Tuesday by 5 p.m.
Borough President Eric Adams sent a statement saying he sending Barron and Weinstein his best wishes and that he is hoping for their speedy recovery.
