A jewelry store in Kingsbridge was broken into and robbed on the same night that looting and vandalism took place throughout Fordham, Burnside Avenue and other areas of the Bronx.
The owner of Gold Market Jewelry Store, Sergey Musheyev, says he received a call in the middle of the night Monday after the 11 p.m. curfew was enacted in the city.
"We're all for the peaceful protests, but what's going on right now ... it's just hurting our community. You know, we love this community," said Musheyev.
Video surveillance shows that the shop's front windows were smashed and that the gate was broken into. You can also see the suspects enter the store.
The owner says they smashed jewelry cases and stole almost $100,000 worth of merchandise.
"I'm trying to make the best of my store, and I've been robbed for no reason and it's been hard as it is with coronavirus," said Musheyev.
Musheyev says his store has only been able to partially open during the pandemic as a pawn shop. His son says they are struggling to make ends meet and that the incident will only set them back further.
News 12 spoke with Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz on Thursday who says that his district, including Kingsbridge and Riverdale, had not experienced the looting like some other parts of the Bronx. He tells News 12 he felt for the business owners that were affected.
