'Pandemic is by no means over.' - Doctors urge residents to stay home this Thanksgiving

Despite the warnings to stay home, millions of people are still traveling and gathering with family for Thanksgiving. Officials are begging people to reconsider.
"This pandemic is by no means over. We've had over 1 million cases in the last seven days. Mortality rates are going up, hospitalizations are going up and this is probably not the best time to get together with people outside your immediate household," says Dr. Steven Meixler, medical director of WestMed Medical Group.
Meixler says that more closures and more deaths are very possible if people ignore the warnings.
Thousands of people in Westchester and hundreds in the Hudson Valley tested positive for coronavirus this week.
While AAA reports 5 million fewer Americans traveled for Thanksgiving this year, they estimate 50 million people still have.
Meixler says if you do host or attend a party, make sure to wash your hands frequently and socially distance yourself from others.
Meixler says it's not a good idea to hug or kiss and when serving food, it's better to have food covered and for the host to serve individual plates rather than have guests serve themselves.
The CDC is recommending guests bring their own tableware or use disposable options. They say guests should also avoid going in and out of the kitchen or where food is being prepared.
