Today the students at St. Raymond Elementary School held a pajama drive to benefit kids in need this holiday season. It was the fourth time the school has participated in the Scholastic Books' Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive.
The pajama drive was organized by St. Raymond's fifth grade teacher Elizabeth Mackay. Students were allowed to dress up in their pajamas for class, if they brought in a pair of brand-new pajamas to donate to charity.
The school's Assistant Principal Tarik Hyman says St. Raymond chose the Administration for Children's Services to receive their donations. Scholastic Books is matching each donation and giving a new book along with each pair of pajamas.
The event was created by the Pajama Program, a nonprofit organization that helps support healthy bedtime routines for kids that are affected by instability. The organization says they will distribute the new books in the coming months for every pajama set collected.
Hyman says she believes the school will be able to donate 400 pairs of pajamas to kids who are less fortunate.
