Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra visited Ukrainian
refugees a few weeks ago at the Polish border. This weekend, the
mayor and Jenkinson's will host Point Beach Cares: A Concert for Ukraine to
raise money for displaced Ukrainians.
Headlined by legendary singer and guitarist Bobby Bandiera, this
Sunday's Ukrainian benefit show at Jenkinson's is set to raise more than
$200,000 for the refugees.
“It's almost unfathomable to think about the numbers in the
devastation,” says Kanitra. “Some of them are still in disbelief thinking
they're going back in a couple weeks. Rebuilding is going to take
decades and decades.”
The concert came together as Kanitra visited the border in Poland
and assisted with several charities.
“Jenkinson's has stepped up in a huge way offering the venue and
the staff. They benefited from having Ukrainians come over and
help operate the rides and attractions for many years, just like the
bureau of Point Pleasant Beach and our residence and guests have as well,” says
Kanitra.
Bandiera came on board and brought a talented lineup, including
Eddie Testa, Paul Forbert and the Ukrainian Choir.
“Everybody was willing to jump in. We've been
looking for a way to do something for the Ukraine and donate our time and
efforts for a fundraiser positively,” says Bandiera.
Doors open Sunday at 4 p.m. The concert is scheduled to begin at 5
p.m.
