Police: 17-year-old injured in stabbing outside of a school in Brownsville

It is still unclear what led to the stabbing, but police say 17-year-old was stabbed in the back and taken to Brookdale Hospital.

Police say a 17-year-old girl was stabbed by another female outside of a school in Brooklyn on Friday. 
Police say it happened outside of 985 Rockaway Ave. at around 2:06 p.m. The Department of Education says the victim was one of their students. 
The incident happened outside of the Metropolitan Diploma Plus High School, which is one of three schools housed inside the school building. 
It is still unclear what led to the stabbing, but police say 17-year-old was stabbed in the back and taken to Brookdale Hospital. 
The 17-year-old is in stable condition, according to police. 
The Department of Education released a statement saying, “The safety of students and staff is our top priority, and we are closely monitoring the status of a student who was attacked off school grounds by an unknown assailant in a non-school related incident. We’re working closely with NYPD as they investigate.”
No arrests have been made at this time.
