Police are still searching for a pair of suspects they believe shot a man inside the Green Acres Mall on Monday.
A man entered Famous Footwear around 4:30 p.m. and confronted another man in the store before firing one round.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound to the leg.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says the person who fired the gun and another man ran off. He says the suspects and victim knew each other.
"We got there, there was one individual shot behind the leg and was down and out behind the counter," Ryder says. "Everyone in the store ran to the rear of the store and locked themselves in."
The Famous Footwear was closed Tuesday, and the incident left some who often go to the mall fearful for their next visit.
"I am concerned to go anywhere where there are young people who feel they can kill, shoot, beat up or abuse," says Waheeda J.
Others say they aren't very concerned and that incidents like Monday's don't happen often.
No arrests have been made.
