Police arrested a major drug trafficker in the Bronx after finding pounds of illicit drugs and millions of dollars in cash.
Juan Rondon, 60, was arrested on Wednesday after what investigators say was a nearly two-month investigation. They walked into his apartment on Wednesday afternoon to find 26 pounds of cocaine and $3 million in cash stuffed in his furniture.
Officers captured images of the cocaine stuffed in a secret compartment of a coffee table at Rondon’s home at 3405 Gates Place. Investigators say cash was spread out around the apartment stuffed in different pieces of furniture along with 10 luxury watches from brands like Rolex and Cartier.
One neighbor spoke with News 12 and says he was not surprised about police arriving at his neighbor’s door.
"This area tends to fester a lot of drug activity, but never this close. It's usually further down," said resident Kevin White.
State police Acting Superintendent Steven James says law enforcement will continue to put dangerous people like Rondon behind bars.
