Police: Attempted kidnapping suspect in custody, facing charges

Police say they found Santiago Salcedo, who is homeless, sleeping in the doorway of a restaurant a few hours later. They arrested him Monday night.

The man who was allegedly caught on camera ripping a young girl away from her grandmother’s hand and trying to take her away is in police custody. 
News 12 is told that 27-year-old Santiago Salcedo is in police custody and is awaiting arraignment at this time. 
The shocking video shows a man grab a 3-year-old girl and run away, with her grandmother chasing after them. 
News 12 is told people in the area heard the screams and were able to step in, saving the little girl. 
The incident happened just before 1:30 p.m. Monday near the corner of East Tremont and Baisley avenues in Schuylerville. 
Police say they found Salcedo, who is homeless, sleeping in the doorway of a restaurant a few hours later. They arrested him Monday night. 
He repeatedly smiled at News 12 cameras as he was walked out of the 45th Precinct. 
Salcedo is charged with attempted kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and acting in a manner dangerous to a minor.
