Police have arrested a military veteran in connection with a car explosion involving an aerosol can and a detonator in Pelham Bay last week.
Officers say 36-year-old Richard Laugel, of the Bronx, has been charged with attempted murder, arson and criminal possession of a weapon.
As News 12 previously reported, the bomb squad was on Roberts and Mahan avenues Wednesday night after an explosive device attached to a red Nissan was detonated.
Two people, a 24-year-old man and his 28-year-old girlfriend, were inside the car at the time of the explosion.
Police say neither person was injured.
Laugel is the owner of a laundromat on Middletown Road. Neighbors say the business has been closed for a few months.
