A man is dead following a police-involved shooting early Sunday in Fordham, police say.
Police say two officers saw a 24-year-old man and a 45-year-old man arguing with a group on Valentine Avenue and East 180th Street.
They say officers confronted the 24-year-old man and asked him to drop his weapon.
They say the 24-year-old turned the gun on the officers and started firing.
Police fired back at the man with an unknown number of rounds. He was struck in the torso and fell to the ground.
They say a 45-year-old man then picked up the gun and fired at officers.
Officers quickly moved toward both men, rendering aid to the 24-year-old and taking the 45-year-old into custody and arresting him.
The 24-year-old man was taken to a hospital where he died.
Police confirm that the men were father and son and were involved in a neighborhood dispute.
Police say others who were in the area at the time were not injured by the bullets.
Police Chief Juanita Holmes says the officers were not injured, but taken to Jacobi Hospital for observation.
Police say the gun used by both men has not been recovered and the reasoning for the original dispute between father and son is unknown.
The 45-year-old man is expected to recover and remains in custody.
