A man was left in critical condition from a brutal assault involving a cobblestone in Mott Haven, police say.
The incident happened on June 9 at around 4:55 a.m. when a man walked up to the victim and hit him in the back of the head with a cobblestone. The man than stomped on the victim's head and upper back before going to look for another stone.
Video shows the victim slowly getting up and attempting to get away from the suspect before being hit in the head with another stone.
The victim was discovered and transported to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition.
Police say 22-year-old Reginald Starks is in custody. Police say Starks is facing attempted murder and other charges.
Residents agree that the streets need to be made safer.
Dennis Butler says people need to be able to see what is around them at all times while walking in the dark.
"And you think it's safe," Butler says. "They got to put more NYPD."
