A Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus crashed into a pole Thursday morning in the Bronx, sending 13 people to the hospital, according to the NYPD.

Police say the bus struck a subway column at Boston and West Farms roads around 8:25 a.m.

Police say there were 13 people on the bus including the driver, several of them were children.

The bus driver suffered cardiac arrest and was taken to St. Barnabus in critical condition. The remaining 12 passengers were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, including bruising and neck pain.

The MTA says the bus driver has been working for 14 years and was cleared for health during the department’s physical exams. Transit workers say they visited the bus driver in the hospital to check on her condition.

The entire strip of Boston Road was blocked off as a result of the crash.
