Police: Newborn baby found dead inside dumpster in Coney Island

A newborn baby was found dead inside of a dumpster in Coney Island, according to police.

A newborn baby was found dead inside of a dumpster in Coney Island, according to police.  
Police say they found the baby after a 911 call from the mother, saying she had given birth but didn't know where the newborn baby was.  
After searching the area, police say they found the baby unconscious and unresponsive inside of a dumpster in the parking lot of 2925 W. 27th St. on Wednesday just before 5 p.m. 
The mother told investigators she had given birth to the child a few days ago and had thrown the baby in the garbage.  
Police say they initially searched in the immediate area near the mother’s home and found the baby about a block away.  
The medical examiner is investigating to determine the cause of death.  
Abandoned Infant Protection Act says a parent can abandon a newborn baby within 30 days in a safe manner and at a safe location like a hospital , staffed fire station or police precinct.
