Police have released video of the alleged gunman in the deadly shooting of a taxi driver in Belmont.
The homicide happened at the corner of Beaumont Avenue and East 189th Street at around 1:30 a.m. Monday. A security camera at a parking garage down the street caught grainy footage of the slaying.
According to police, 39-year-old Mamadou Barry picked up the suspect between Cypress Avenue and Brook Avenue, which is only about a mile away from where Barry lived with his wife and three children.
Barry's wife says that she is thankful for the support from her family and the police, but has not yet been able to pass by the scene of her husband's murder.
Police say that Barry had transported the suspect to East 189th Street and Beaumont Avenue. Police say that's when the suspect shot him in the head.
Surveillance video shows the cab crashing into a hair salon and the suspect fleeing.
According to police, the suspect ran off on Crotona Avenue toward East 187th Street.
Police say the suspect they're searching for has a medium complexion and a thin build. He was last seen wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt and light-colored shorts.
The taxi did have its own cameras inside the cab, but those images haven't been released yet.
A reward of $2,500 is being offered to anyone who can provide information about the homicide. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
