Police search for driver who hit jogger in Sayville, drove off

A 911 caller reported finding the victim lying on the side of Brook Street, west of Cherry Avenue around 5:45 a.m. on Saturday morning.

A woman was seriously hurt after being hit by a vehicle that fled the scene in Suffolk County.

Michele Walters, 60, of Sayville, was jogging around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning when she was struck, Suffolk police say.

A 911 caller reported finding the victim lying on the side of Brook Street, west of Cherry Avenue in Sayville at 5:45 a.m.

Walters was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of her serious injuries.

Detectives believe the vehicle involved was a dark-colored SUV and may have front-end and front passenger-side damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
