Police have seized two dozen roosters and chickens from a Bronx basement after a suspected cock-fighting ring was uncovered.
Police confirmed they entered the basement of a building on Willis Avenue near E. 136th Street in Mott Haven Tuesday around 6:40 a.m. and confiscated the birds. Police say they also recovered paraphernalia related to cock-fighting.
The ASPCA says it is caring for the birds while police investigate.
"The ASPCA is caring for the roosters and chickens seized from 212 Willis Ave. in the Bronx and providing forensic assistance to the NYPD," the ASPCA says.
Police say they spoke with the owner of the animals, but an arrest has not been made and charges have not been filed.
