Multiple shootings in Brooklyn Sunday night have left several injured and a 1-year-old boy dead.
Police say the boy was shot outside the Raymond Bush Park around 11:30 p.m.
Police believe two men approached the group outside a park before opening fire on the crowd, killing the 1-year-old, identified as Davell Gardener.
The gunmen also injured three others. News 12 is told the mother of the 1-year-old was in the park when the shooting took place. It is still unclear who the intended target of the gunman was.
Police say the second shooting happened around 9 p.m. They say they responded to a call in Crown Heights for a 12-year-old shot in his leg.
The incident happened in front of 1636 Prospect Place.
Officials say the young boy was taken to Maimonides Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
Community members say they are outraged by the spike in crime, and the thought that children are victims of gun violence. Many of them, including community advocate Tony Herbert are now demanding tougher gun laws.
"These legislators, these politicians need to wake up. We've told them what should be done, they keep throwing money at a circumstance to organizations that come after the fact there has to be a proactive, and proactive means we need to change the mandatory minimums of these gun laws, so we can let everyone understand that we are not playing in New York," says Herbert.
