Fire officials in Weston have determined a likely cause of a fire that destroyed a home on Thanksgiving.
Fire Chief John Pokorny says preliminary information suggests it was an accident involving frying a turkey.
“There was a party going on at the house,” Pokorny says. “When we arrived, the garage and the room above the garage were completely involved.”
Smoke filled the air on Weston Road Friday, as first responders continued clearing debris from the scene one day after the fire.
“We have some deep-seated fires, we’re getting to work on those now,” Chief Pokorny says. “We’re digging into the rubble.”
Officials say there were no injuries. First responders are reminding people to take proper precautions with the holidays approaching.
“If you’re using any fireplaces, burning any fire, or using candles,” Chief Pokorny says. “You just have to be really careful because it can all go bad really quickly.”
Fire departments from Westport, Wilton, Redding, and other towns assisted in knocking down the fire.
Officials say that the home is uninhabitable. The American Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting the people who are displaced.
