A woman was pronounced dead at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital after police found her unconscious at a Gowanus building described as a “party event space.”
Police identified the victim as 20-year-old Queens resident Carliza Pierre. They say she was found unresponsive inside a building called “Pawty Time” on 14th Street last Friday. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
Neighbors tell News 12 that since the pandemic, the building has developed a reputation for being a popular center of the underage party scene. Residents say the parties last as late as 4 a.m. and keep the whole neighborhood up.
Neighbors say they have filed at least 100 311 calls about the noise.
“It's the third floor. They have DJs, they blast music and sometimes they even open the windows and doors,” said neighbor Claudia Miale.
In June 2021, 22 residents decided to take legal action by suing the building’s owner, management and vendors that operate in the space.
News 12 is waiting to hear back from the local community board about whether the venue has an official liquor license and a registered legal event space.
