Port Authority expects a record number of travelers to go through area airports this holiday weekend.
If you are flying out of Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport or John F. Kennedy International Airport, expect 2.2 million people between tomorrow and Monday. Port Authority says that would be a new record for Fourth of July travel, 1% higher than last year.
But at Newark, the airport faces staffing shortages, dated technology and reported equipment outages. Federal officials and airlines continue to say it is safe to fly.
It's always recommended to get to the airport at least two hours before your flight.
AAA says about 190,000 New Jerseyans will be flying during the holiday period.
The top five domestic spots are Orlando, Seattle, New York City, Anchorage and Fort Lauderdale, according to AAA.
AAA's top three international flights are to Vancouver, Rome and Paris.
Port Authority expects Thursday and Monday to be the busiest days at the airports.
