A milestone was marked Wednesday for getting food to people in need in Westchester and Putnam communities.
A total of 75,000 deliveries were made in the fight to end food insecurity, thanks to Project DASH.
The project is an initiative spearheaded by United Way Westchester and Putnam, DoorDash and 40 other local partners.
It began during the pandemic in 2020.
"We were approached to start this program only for six weeks, to help get fresh fruits and vegetable into the community," says Ossining High School teacher Patricia Guerin.
Guerin says they are now starting their third year - and 200 families later.
She says the work is done every Wednesday.
"The classes favorite day of the week. The food gets dropped off at the high school, and we break down the boxes," she says.
Students are responsible in handing off bags of produce to DoorDash Dashers who then make deliveries to households in need.
Everyone involved hopes to continue to make more deliveries possible.
