Protesters gathered at Grand Army Plaza Monday night to express their frustration and outrage over the death of Daunte Wright.
The demonstrators then took to the streets and made their way into the roadway. Their voices echoed the sentiment of those protesting in Minnesota and around the country.
Body camera footage released by Brooklyn Center PD in Minnesota shows Wright during a traffic stop in a struggle with officers before being shot. Moments before the shot, an officer is heard yelling "Taser, Taser, Taser."
Authorities say police officer Kim Potter attempted to fire a Taser at Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, but accidentally fired a gun instead.
The city manager has already been dismissed and Potter, described by Wright's family attorney Ben Crump as a 26-year-veteran of Brooklyn Center PD, is on administrative leave.
The pain and frustration is being felt here in New York City, but also in Minnesota.
"We are in pain right now, and we recognize that this couldn't have happened at a worse time, said Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliot, referring to the fact that the incident unfolded miles away from where George Floyd died and from the courtroom where the officer is on trial for Floyd's murder.
Floyd's death sparked the racial unrest that happened last summer, so tensions are high in that area of Minnesota.
Meanwhile here in New York City, there's word that more rallies may be held today as well as around the country, and the NYPD says it has officers on standby in case they're needed.
