Parents and staff at P.S. 121 in Allerton say street congestion near the school is creating unsafe conditions for students.
Double and triple parking, speeding, and U-turns are common during morning drop-offs. Parents say it’s hard to maneuver around other cars, and the traffic disrupts the community.
The school’s crossing guard says drivers often don’t stop, and the school’s principal says past requests to the city for increased safety measures have been slow to materialize.
Sources from the Department of Transportation tell News 12 they recently installed four-way stop signs at two nearby intersections.
Sources add they also plan to convert parts of the two surrounding streets to one-way roads. The department is waiting for community feedback before moving forward with the safety improvement plan.
