Students and faculty members at P.S. 83 wore purple Wednesday for Alzheimer's disease awareness.
The idea for Purple Day at the school came about after the SHARKS, or students helping and assisting relatives with knowledge and skills, decided they wanted to make Bronx residents aware of the debilitating condition.
The SHARKS shared their stories about taking care of afflicted family members in an effort to educate their peers.
The organization is donating money raised by selling purple bracelets, which cost $2 each, to support students who are faced with the disease every day.
The SHARKS were hoping to raise at least $500 from the bracelet sales. They will also participate in the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer's on Oct. 29.
