Nassau residents made their thoughts heard about two versions of proposed redistricting for the county on Wednesday.
A public hearing on the proposed maps was held at 6 p.m. in Mineola. Everyone who addressed the crowd had three minutes to speak.
A map from Democrats and one from the Republicans have been proposed.
The goal is to come up with a nonpartisan map that benefits everyone in all of the county's districts, but there were many disagreements that arose during the meeting.
"We see a map by the Republicans that want to remove Westbury from Legislative District 2," said Gregory Williams of Westbury. "It insults the intelligence of all of us."
Members of the Democratic delegation of the commission says the Republicans' proposed map is politically driven and does not accurately represent Nassau County's population, demographic and they say it is not legal.
Republicans say their proposed map is legal and the lines are drawn with equal population, demographics and legal standards.
Those who came out say they spoke out to ensure their concerns are heard and considered before the map is agreed to.
Anyone who can't make it to the meeting can email the county their comments
