The current General Equivalency Diploma (GED) procedures are raising questions for Bronx and city test-takers. Due to the lack of local walk-in GED test-taking centers, the Citizen?s Advice Bureau has begun bussing participants almost two hours away to Dutchess County. They do this to cut waiting time, but many say the illogical procedure costs the state thousands for travel and lodging. Diami Virgilio from the Citizens Advice Bureau says the sometimes six-month wait often prohibits people from following through. Tom Dunn from the New York State Department of Education admits at times, the extended wait is due to people re-testing many times without being prepared because there is no fee to take the test.
