There are more calls for Councilman Ruben Diaz Sr. to step down following comments he made that some say are homophobic.
Some members of the New York City Council and leaders of the LGBTQ community rallied on the steps of City Hall for the councilman to resign.
"He has got to come forward immediately and say what he did was wrong and it is not going to happen again and he recognizes the mistake and he is willing to act differently. That is the only way I think he can salvage this situation. If he doesn't do that immediately, I think he needs to leave,” said de Blasio.
The controversy stems from remarks the longtime politician recently made on a Spanish language show "El Desahogo," as first reported by NY1.
News 12 met up with the councilman this weekend and he said, “I am not apologizing for what I’ve said, I said it before, I’ll say it again, the New York City Council is controlled by the gay community."
