Last year, News 12 reported the story of tenants at a Parkchester South Condominium who had to climb over mountains of trash every time they left their homes.
A year later, residents say garbage is still piling up. They say the outside of their homes still looks like a dump, due to to piles of garbage attracting vermin each day.
Sarah Alleyne, 78, is part of a senior neighborhood watch group at the complex.
She says the group has been complaining for months about the mountains of trash and the smell it leaves behind.
The Department of Sanitation explained Parkchester South's on-site "containerized collection" to News 12 in a response which says in part, "This means the management company is responsible for collecting waste from each building and taking it to a centralized container….When used properly, containerized collection is a much cleaner, more efficient method of collection."
According to residents, management blames the pileup on the maintenance crew being understaffed.
The watch group is planning to have a press conference later this month.
News 12 reached out to building management about the garbage but has not heard back.
