Residents in the Bronx are joining the Department of Sanitation in cleaning up
the city.
Salt spreaders and plows are still out clearing streets in the borough, but the
city has also been hiring snow laborers to help the effort.
People were shoveling on Prospect Avenue and 182nd Street.
Wilfredo Carrasquillo says it’s tough labor, but a way to make extra money
during the pandemic.
“It’s been hard for me to get any employment because of the pandemic,”
Carrasquillo says. “
The Department of Sanitation saying to get some money, and
this is one way to make it.”
The Department of Sanitation says it is telling people not to push snow into
the street while they are getting their cars out. Instead, they should move the
snow into the sidewalk to make it easier for workers.
News 12 is told it is going to take crews around a week to clean up the Bronx,
but it could take longer.
News 12 meteorologists also says snow is possible for next week.
The assistant chief of the Department of Sanitation says they are still
accepting applications for snow laborers.
Residents need to apply online and
have two forms of identification.
