A Riverdale mother accused of starving her teenage sons and keeping them homebound for nine years appeared in court Wednesday.
Lissette Soto Domenech is facing multiple charges including assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. The 64-year-old was indicted last month and was released on $25,000 cash bail.
The indictment alleges that for the past nine years, she refused to take her 14-year-old sons to a doctor and faked documents claiming she was homeschooling them.
According to the Administration for Children’s Services, a specialist visited the home back in October and found both 14-year-old boys severely malnourished, each weighing less than 55 pounds. One of the boys is autistic and apparently was never evaluated for the condition.
ACS also reported that inside the apartment there was only infant cereal, baby bottles and toddler toys.
Both boys were taken to Montefiore Children's Hospital where they received care for three months.
The prosecuting attorney Wednesday asked for an order of protection for the boys prohibiting supervised visitations.
She is expected back in court with the judge expected to make a decision on March 25.
