316ds agoThe Town of Riverhead could soon be decreasing the amount of time people can park on parts of Main Street.
The Riverhead Town Council held a public hearing on Tuesday to hear from residents about proposed changes that could be coming to downtown parking.
The proposal would make most of Main Street have a one-hour parking limit. Some high traffic areas would have a 15-minute limits.
Currently, residents can park for a maximum of two hours on Main Street. Nearby side streets and parking lots would provide longer-term parking, which could mean a little longer of a walk to get to parts of Main Street.
One Riverhead council member told News 12 that changes are needed because more people are living downtown.
The public comment period on the proposed parking changes is still open. Anyone who wants to give their opinion can reach out to the Town of Riverhead.
